Avril Lavigne – Head Above Water (2018)

Our “fierce” Lyme warrior – Avril lavigne

Head Above Water was released in 2018 … I will try to put into words what this song means to all of us in the LYME Patient Community.

If you read KRIS NEWBY’s Book ” Bitten “, and you read the description in her first two chapters of the effects LYME and other Tick-Borne infections had upon her, and her husband’s cognitive abilities, you will begin to understand the overwhelming sense of panic, confusion, and utter horror these infections can cause. Sometimes it is like being in the center of an “electrical storm”, but the “sparks” are in your own body and you have no ability to control the devastating effects they have. Sometimes, you are so completely exhausted you can not even pour cereal into a little bowl with some milk for yourself, let alone launch a “cooking” attempt. Sometimes the neurological pain is so severe … you wish, yes, you “wish” you could end it all!

You do feel like you are “drowning” … which is why Avril’s lyrics and the emotion expressed in this song are so very, very real to us – Old LYME patients, young adult patients, and of course, the children.

This is why we … LYME infected patients, young and old … embrace her.
Avril speaks for us.

In another age and time (the 1960s) a song by Eric Burdon and the Animals might have been our anthem – ” Oh Lord, Please Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood “.
In today’s world, HEAD ABOVE WATER is our anthem.
Now you understand.

We will be featuring our “out spoken”, “not afraid to tell you”, absolutely FIERCE Lyme Patient Champion, AVRIL LAVIGNE over the next few months.

Please visit the wonderful organization theavrillavignefoundation.org that she has started to help Kids! You can find it on our DONATE page.

Song Lyrics

I’ve gotta keep the calm before the storm
I don’t want less, I don’t want more
Must bar the windows and the doors
To keep me safe, to keep me warm

Yeah, my life is what I’m fighting for
Can’t part the sea, can’t reach the shore
And my voice becomes the driving force
I won’t let this pull me overboard

God, keep my head above water
Don’t let me drown, it gets harder
I’ll meet you there at the altar
As I fall down to my knees
Don’t let me drown, drown, drown
Don’t let me, don’t let me, don’t let me drown

So pull me up from down below
‘Cause I’m underneath the undertow
Come dry me off and hold me close
I need you now, I need you most

God, keep my head above water
Don’t let me drown, it gets harder
I’ll meet you there at the altar
As I fall down to my knees
Don’t let…
